When child abuse occurs, many do not know where to begin in the lengthy and often complicated process. Beyond being able to provide basic trauma response services to underserved community members, mobile Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) can solve multiple problems by eliminating transportation from both rural and urban areas to coordinate appointments to multiple organizations and giving multiple descriptions of child abuse over a long period of time.
Each time a child describes their story, they must re-experience their trauma. Bringing all of the resources to the children in their neighborhood community allows them to only describe their story once. This collaboration expedites each child’s time in the legal system and ensures that children are not re-victimized by the system and that they and their families are provided the support and services needed.
Mobile CAC vehicles are staffed with a professional team of psychologists, counselors, social workers, nurses, lawyers, investigators, and child victim advocates. The mobile CAC takes these vital resources to the victims in their neighborhoods, record forensic interviews, provide medical exams, psychological assessment, and legal assistance, and then take the evidence to the family court and law enforcement to file the initial paperwork. Victims receive justice in weeks instead of years or not at all.
Court cases are also processed more quickly due to the ability to coordinate investigative and interview procedures at the same time. In addition, the presence of a mobile CAC presents an opportunity to educate the community about child abuse prevention and response. Non-offending parents are encouraged to support their children throughout the intervention process, and opportunities for further mental health treatment are offered.
How you can help
ASCDEM has assembled a team of professionals and advocates, but we lack the desperately needed funding to create the needed mobile CACs and need your help. By sponsoring ASCDEM, you can help us thank the dedicated people whose work helps keep our communities safe and provides healing with hope to the youngest victims. Your donation will also help us continue our ultimate goal of changing the way Mexico responds to crimes against children by building a strong network.
On behalf of the staff, volunteers, advocates, and most importantly the children, we would like to thank you in advance for your commitment to the defense movement for children in Mexico. These children depend on your support.
